July 21, 2018
2 months and 28 days since
our celebration.
Mike Oliver is a brilliant journalist, blogger and friend. And as many of his literal and figurative teammates know, the only thing more disarming than his wit is his jump shot. Every Saturday (and most Wednesdays), Mike can be found in the gym schooling opponents half his age, draining bucket after bucket.

In 2016, Mike was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia. In Mike’s own words, LBD is “like Parkinson's and Alzheimer's combined.”

Despite Lewy body dementia being the second leading cause of dementia after Alzheimer's, it is not well known and often misdiagnosed. The disease received some notoriety when it was reported that Robin Williams suffered from LBD in the lead up to his death. However, research for a cure currently lacks the funding that accompanies a high-profile celebrity advocate such as Michael J. Fox for Parkinson's disease.

Please join us in raising money to find a cure.

Last year, we held a 3-on-3 basketball tournament in Mike's honor to help raise money for LBD research. This year we're doing it again, with some slight changes. We'd love to have you on board.

In honor and celebration of Mike Oliver, we invite you to compete in the second annual Mike Madness 3-on-3 basketball tournament at UAB Recreation Center on Saturday, July 21.
